Waiting for Daddy with Bubbles

It was a beautiful day outside so after work, today Jackson and I decided to go outside and wait for daddy to come home from work.  While waiting, I decided to introduce Jack to bubbles.  It was pretty funny.

I blew the bubbles to Jackson's right but every time I did so, J reacted like a big gust of wind was hitting his face.  After that initial reaction, Jackson saw the bubbles and tried the grab them.  The problem was Jackson was way too slow.  Just as his chubby little arm started reaching for a bubble, it would fall to the ground and pop.  Jackson was persistent though, reaching for every bubble that was blown.  Maybe next time he will get one!

We Have A Breakthrough!

Saturday night was not a good night for Jackson.  He's so good and we're so lucky because he goes down so easily and has slept through the night for several months now.  But that wasn't the case Saturday night.  He woke up crying 3 times throughout the night.  I wasn't sure if he was cold or wet or hungry.  Each time he didn't cry for long and fell back asleep quickly.  He always sleeps well in our bed so after waking up the second time I put him in our bed.  When we woke up Sunday morning and Jackson started chewing on my finger I understood the problem.  Jackson's first tooth came through!

It's hard to see but there's a tiny tooth nub on J's right side.  Arnold was very excited because this means Jackson is that much closer to his first steak.

Seven Months!

On May 24, our wedding anniversary, Jackson turned 7 months!  He's such a big boy and growing so fast!  Here's what's happened in the last month:

  • We started baby food and he seems to like everything.
  • He sits well in the highchair and anticipates the spoon by opening his mouth when he sees it coming.
  • Jackson is sitting up unsupported.
  • He's rolled over from his stomach to his back a handful of times.
  • Snuggles mommy and daddy on our shoulders when he's tired (it's the best!).
  • Jackson rubs his eyes with a closed fist when he's tired.
  • He eats cereal puffs by picking them up with his fingers and holding them in his hand.  He tries to put them in his mouth but they usually ends up falling out or sticking somewhere.
  • J drinks water from his sippy cup, or at least attempts to.
  • He started grabbing and picking up toys, swinging his arm around, and then dropping the toy or hitting someone in the face with it.
  • J will screech when he's happy.
  • Jackson is always happy and smiling in the morning.
  • He still loves his swing when he's tired.
  • He leans forward, to the side, or behind him for toys, picks them up, and puts them in his mouth.
  • Jackson leans around whatever is blocking him to see what he's missing.
  • Jackson reaches for EVERYTHING and puts it in his mouth.
  • Every time J is changed he puts his feet in his mouth and sucks on his toes.
  • He loves looking at himself in the mirror.
  • Jack always smiles at momma and daddy when we first get home from work.
  • He kicks and splashes in the bath.
  • He started kicking in swim class.
  • Jackson always sleeps on his left side
Some of his favorite things to play with are:

Sofie giraffe
Giraffe pacifier
Crinkly play gym book
Yellow fish made by friend and co-worker Sarah's mom
Crinkly soft block
Light and sound bee toy
Crinkly monkey
Musical monkey toy that does not have an off button
Bouncer
Willow (Poor Willow)
So much to play with!  I can't wait to see what new things he does this month!

A Pretty Perfect Weekend

Last weekend was my weekend.  We didn't get to spend much time together as a family on Mother's Day because someone was working on my car, so I was promised to get another weekend.  And that weekend was pretty perfect.  Saturday was beautiful outside so we decided to take a trip to the zoo.  Arnold was given the task of getting Jackson ready, which included putting sunscreen on.  I was getting things ready for our trip when I heard "Uh oh!  Victoria, can you come here please?"  I walk in Jackson's room and see this:

A little too much sunscreen.  After we got that situation under control, we were out the door and on our way to the zoo!  We stopped and got a few hot dogs as Jackson patiently waited, ready for our outing.

We got to the zoo, took a family pic, and then we were checking out the animals!

We saw monkeys, gazelles, flamingos, cows, goats, chickens, llamas, polar bears, giraffes, and more!

All the animal looking got pretty exhausting so we stopped for a snack.  Jackson tried his first solid food, freeze dried strawberry yogurt bites.

Here's what he thought about it, all within about 10 seconds:

This is different.

Not the right kind of different.

Or is it?

Nope, it's not.

But I do want another.
After our snack, we saw some more animals, and then took a nice long walk back, with sippy cup of course.

Such a long, fun day is tiring so when we got home we ate dinner and went straight to bed.

On Sunday we slept in, went to swim class, and then spent our afternoon in Andersonville.  It was another beautiful day so we walked around, went into some of our favorite shops, stopped in some new ones, and got ice cream.  All that walking wore Jackson out and he fell asleep in his stroller. He even stayed asleep when daddy moved him into his car seat!

A great way to end such a sweet weekend with my boys!

Yellow Squash, Yam, Zucchini, and Banana

Last Wednesday, May 1, we tried yellow squash for the first time.  It started off alright.  I don't think he was too sure about it...

and it quickly turned bad.

He was not a fan.  We couldn't even get through the tablespoon I tried to feed him.  I do have to say that I think he was more tired than anything when I was trying to feed him.  We'll see what happens next time we try the squash.

The next day, on Thursday, we tried Yam for the first time.  On Thursday I was actually pretty sick with the flu or food poisoning (NOT fun) and so missed the the tasting of the yam, but fortunately  daddy was able to capture it all on film.  This was Jackson's response:

Apparently he really liked it!

This past Tuesday, May 7, we tried zucchini.  I wasn't sure he'd like this one because of the consistency, and he wasn't too sure either, but he actually did end up enjoying it.

Then, yesterday, we tried banana.  This was a hit!  I don't have a good picture of his first reaction but any picture of J is great!

So, with everything he's tried, Jackson likes carrot, avocado, yam, zucchini, and banana.  We tried pear a few more times and he seemed to like it a little better then.  Right now he's not a big fan of yellow squash but we'll see how he feels the next time we try it.
